Barrett Ross Ginsberg, M.D.
Ophthalmologist in Naples and Estero
Barrett Ross Ginsberg, M.D., a board-certified and fellowship-trained ophthalmologist, spent 10 years practicing in Lee and Collier counties before opening a state-of-the-art boutique practice providing personalized eye care and surgery in Olde Naples. “Now, I get to spend time with patients and the patients get a unique, patient-centric experience where they are not rushed,” Dr. Ginsberg says of the transition. “Patients feel like they have full access to me and to the staff.”
Born in Buffalo, New York, and raised in Clearwater, Florida, Dr. Ginsberg’s journey into medicine began after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Virginia. He subsequently received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Florida.
From medical school, Dr. Ginsberg went on to study ophthalmology and perfect his craft at some of the top programs in the country. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida Shands Teaching Hospital and was named Resident of the Year. He was then selected for the prestigious University of California at Davis fellowship in cornea and external disease, uveitis, and refractive surgery. At U.C. Davis, he was trained by internationally known Drs. Mark Mannis and Ivan Schwab.
In the last decade, Dr. Ginsberg has performed thousands of eye surgeries and has been an associate professor at the University of South Florida and Nova Southeastern University. He has given lectures both in the United States and abroad, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
When he is not caring for patients, Dr. Ginsberg enjoys endurance sports like running, swimming, and cycling. He has completed 10 marathons, including the New York City Marathon twice and many triathlons up to the half-ironman distance. He dedicated his 2011 NYC Marathon to the Lighthouse of Collier and raised approximately five thousand dollars in donor support.
Dr. Ginsberg is married to Dr. Tanimoto, whom he met in California while they were both in fellowship training. Together, they have one daughter. The Ginsberg family is active in the community. They have both served on the board of directors of the Lighthouse of Collier and volunteered at the Bonita Springs Lions Eye Clinic.
